Gas Turbine Efficiency’s Multi-Stage Compressor Cleaning System To Be Featured in Energy Industry Conference

February 19, 2010

Louisiana-based Cleco will be presenting GTE’s compressor cleaning system performance data at the 501F Users Group Annual Conference in Orlando

(ORLANDO, FL) — Gas Turbine Efficiency plc (AIM: GTE), a leader in energy and aviation products and services, will be a focal point at the upcoming 2010 501F Users Group Annual Meeting in Orlando, where Mike Bishoff, O&M Supervisor of Cleco Evangeline, will be presenting recently validated data from GTE’s compressor cleaning model system on the SGGT6-5000F.

GTE’s automatic online wash cleaning system has been designed to provide gas turbine operators the advantage of incorporating its patented water wash technology, which is seamlessly integrated into Siemens WDPF control system as an optimal solution for operational flexibility.

In 2008, GTE commissioned a rigorous Research and Development program with Cleco Evangeline to eliminate the excessive compressor fouling on three combined cycle SGT6-5000F (W501F) engines. Based on the results of the R&D efforts, GTE designed a patent-pending, fully automated, multi-stage nozzle cleaning system for online and offline compressor wash systems with the aim of reducing engine power degradation and increasing engine efficiency.

“The GTE water wash system is valuable because it is an easy to use, low maintenance cleaning system,” said Bishoff. “Thanks to its implementation, the unit can maintain the power output, reduce fuel and parts costs, and provide added operational flexibility.”

Bishoff will present evidence supporting how GTE’s unit can cut the engine degradation in half in comparison to the OEM water wash system, while demonstrating an average percent power benefit of 1.18% and motivating an average increase in engine efficiency of 0.42%.

GTE offers similar systems for most industrial gas turbines, utilizing its proprietary technology to create cost-effective solutions to a common need for power plant operators in the Energy Industry.

In addition to being featured in a conference presentation, GTE will be hosting 501F users at its Welcome Reception on Sunday, February 21. The event will be held at the Admirals Pool at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. GTE will also be exhibiting in the vendor fair on Monday, February 22, where a model of the 501F bellmouth and inlet nozzles will be on display, showcasing GTE’s nozzle spray patterns.

A full description of GTE’s products and services, including case studies, can be found at http://www.gasturbineefficiency.com and the full Cleco case study will be available to event attendees during the 501F Users Group meeting.

Gas Turbine Efficiency Aviation Products Experience Increase in Demand

February 15, 2010

GTE’s aviation business unit receives $1.6M order from Pratt & Whitney

ORLANDO, Florida – Gas Turbine Efficiency plc (AIM: GTE), a leader in energy and aviation products and services, is pleased to announce that it has received a $1.6M order from Pratt & Whitney for its closed loop EcoPower® service. This equipment will serve multiple locations within the United States as well as in other countries.

In addition, Pratt & Whitney has also announced that they recently signed a five-year agreement with Nayak Aircraft Services GmbH, one of the largest airline-independent providers of aircraft maintenance in Europe. This will potentially further extend GTE´s technology in this region to more than 60 airlines in more than 25 stations at airports in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Finland, Poland, Spain and Ireland.

“It is pleasing to see this increase in demand for our products from the airline industry. These orders demonstrate that GTE’s technology is recognized as a cost-effective solution for airline operators,” said Steven Zwolinski, CEO of GTE. “More than ever, airline operators understand the value of reducing fuel burn and optimizing asset life while reducing emissions.”

Through the exclusive use of GTE’s water wash technology, Pratt & Whitney’s airline customers can reduce fuel consumption by as much as 1.2%, eliminating approximately three pounds of carbon dioxide emissions for every pound of fuel saved. The system is typically more effective and much faster than traditional engine washing processes.

As of February 2010, several of the world’s largest operators in the aviation industry have signed up for this service including customers Southwest Airlines, Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Martinair and the United States Air Force.

Gas Turbine Efficiency Earns Industry Recognition in Energy Services Leadership

February 1, 2010

GTE’s non-OEM solution provides measurable benefit for power plant operators

ORLANDO, Florida — Gas Turbine Efficiency plc (AIM: GTE), a leader in energy and aviation products and services, has been featured in Combined Cycle Journal 3Q/2009, which highlights its ECOMAX™ gas turbine optimization system, a solution currently in place at Entegra Power Group’s Gila River Power Station in Gila Bend, AZ.

GTE’s innovative ECOMAX system has effectively provided Entegra with a suite of solutions to control emissions, manage dynamics and provide increased output without exceeding OEM design limits. With OEM operational enhancements at a premium, Entegra sought GTE’s expertise to enhance the performance of its gas turbines. Other power producers have too, as there have been many installations of the system in addition to the Entegra site.

GTE’s ECOMAX product line offers a fully automated solution that can optimize gas turbine combustion system performance in near real-time. As an automated tuning system, ECOMAX can increase power potential and maintain operational flexibility while remaining compliant in emissions regulations.

By installing ECOMAX, gas turbine operators select predefined parameters that allow for greater flexibility in matching turbine performance with operational goals. If the market price of power spikes, an operator could change his or her goal to maximize output from low heat rate, and when the market price of power declines, the high-efficiency goal to conserve fuel can be reestablished.

“ECOMAX allows plant operators to set an operational objective for a given time or set of circumstances,” said Tom Wagner, Chief Technology Officer at GTE. “Hence the operator maintains complete discretion for quickly switching turbine settings if another objective is required.”

Power plants using ECOMAX have shown an increase in power output, efficiency gains and emissions reduction. Gas turbines equipped with the ECOMAX system can avoid seasonal tuning by providing near real time tuning — a clear advantage for power plant operators.

ECOMAX sites are also supported by GTE’s proprietary Monitoring and Diagnostics (M&D) center, which provides the power plant operator with a proactive method of monitoring their major equipment. It offers a supplemental service to further enhance plant operation leveraging the expertise to address operational issues. Since the implementation of the M&D center in 2009, customers have avoided unit trips or service interruption and improved efficiency through plant configuration management. This has increased the effectiveness of plant maneuvers and tests- all of which has improved revenue for the client. In addition, it provides real-time monitoring and notification services for identification of emerging issues.

Representatives from GTE will be presenting its ECOMAX solution in more detail at the upcoming 7F Users Group 2010 Annual Conference in Atlanta on May 12-15, 2010.

The entire ECOMAX article from Combined Cycle Journal is available online at http://combinedcyclejournal.com. You can also find recommendations for additional software add-ons to enhance turbine operation, including firing curve adjustments to OEM preset limits, turndown, peak fire, and startup emissions optimization at http://www.gtefficiency.com/pdf/ECOMAX_Tru-Curve%20102809.pdf.
